  • Hello! I just finished the series, and there were some things that I just didn't understand. It is a lot, and I am sorry for that. I figured that you could help me since you are the number one wiki contributor. What drove Johan to the point of suicide? Did he finally realize what he had done, and the guilt, the memories of everything, or something else? If it was memories, why hasn't Nina commited suicide since it was actually her memories? Why did Johan kill all of the townspeople? Why were the picture books so bad, and how/why did it impact the childrens thoughts, (especially Johan). Did Franz Bonaparta have a change of heart, and if so, why? Why did Tenma save Johan again, even after everything that he did? Did Johan have a change of heart that caused him to feel sorry? Did anything really happen at the red rose mansion other than what happened to Nina and the book readings? If not, than why were the book readings so terrible? If so, what did they do? How could people that went to Kinderheim 511 turn out so differently (Johan and Grimmer)? Why did Johan try to erase everything, and all traces of his past? Do you have any speculation based on the series of what the twins real names were? Should I read Another Monster? Does it offer any insight to the series? I may have other questions as I contemplate it. I am sorry that there are so many questions here. Thank you so much for your time.

    • woah yeah these are a lot.  For starters I suggest you go to Tumblr, follow the Naoki Urasawa Monster tag or the Johan Liebert tag, it's a treasure trove of goodies, no shit!

Imma answer these to the best of my ability, but tumblr can do a better job than or check out this fan section that we have: http://obluda.wikia.com/wiki/Fan_Section

okay, let's break this down for comprehension:

      (1) What drove Johan to the point of suicide? Did he finally realize what he had done, and the guilt, the memories of everything, or something else? If it was memories, why hasn't Nina commited suicide since it was actually her memories

      - As far as the ending is concerned I don't believe Johan committed suicide, not in that self inflicted manner that you suggest.  Johan is a showman and has this huge metaphorical balloon around him that I would assume he'd rather die with all the flair and audacity of being killed by a revered person than do the coward's way out.  Guilt is something I'm positive he does not have in normal amounts (there can be little, but nothing much to compel him to actually learn to forgive.  He's a paradox).  As for Nina, you should have observed by now that she is blessed with more forgiving brain chemicals and a generally psotive outlook.  Memories are part of the past. and she has this drive to move forward.

      (2) Why did Johan kill all of the townspeople? Why were the picture books so bad, and how/why did it impact the childrens thoughts, (especially Johan).

      - Honestly, I have no idea what his other motives than recreating an interpretation of Bonaparta's Obluda.  Storytelling, if done right, can really influence people.  I've yet to scientifically uncover how they do that, but basically Bonaparta and Capek did well in it.  I

      (3) Did Franz Bonaparta have a change of heart, and if so, why?

      - I'm gonna have to answer this with an all-time cliche: love.  He had a change of heart because of his love for Viera after all the bad stuff were done and over.

      (4) Why did Tenma save Johan again, even after everything that he did?

      - He's a doctor, man.  Does the hippocratic oath ring a bell?

      Lol just kidding

I can only speculate that he saved him because he felt some sort of kinship to Johan because fuck it he saved him as a kid and almost lost his job and his sanity.

      (5) Did Johan have a change of heart that caused him to feel sorry?

      - I will never and we will never know.  I really hope to hunt where urasawa lives to send hima  fanmail about his.  We have no resolution!

      (6) Did anything really happen at the red rose mansion other than what happened to Nina and the book readings? If not, than why were the book readings so terrible? If so, what did they do?

      - Let me point you to this article I wrote here myself: http://obluda.wikia.com/wiki/The_Red_Rose_Mansion

      (7) How could people that went to Kinderheim 511 turn out so differently (Johan and Grimmer)? Why did Johan try to erase everything, and all traces of his past?

      - In psychology are two basic behavioral modification techniques: classical and operant conditioning.  I suggest you read about those or listen carefully during your psychology class in college.

      (8) Do you have any speculation based on the series of what the twins real names were?

      - nothing that satisfies both canon information and implied events within the series.  Again I point you to the Monste fandom on tumblr for a more satisfactpry answer.

      (9) Should I read Another Monster? Does it offer any insight to the series?

      - this is where you should believe everything that I write here: Read it, it provides a lot of canon insights.  PM me and I'll find a way to scurry through my old college crap for a copy of that.

  • Did you get my last post called Series questions I don't understand?

      Loading editor
  • Hello!!

Since you are a big fan of the series, I reckon you could help me on this: Do you know how someone from the real world could imagine places like the Buh Miru, The Nameless Monster, The Person with the big eyes and the person with the big mouth in their imagination? One guy from Vardemann and Suk's interview said that was real freedom, when he entered that world, he felt something so different. Thus, I'm a little bit curious... How would I imagine a world that would be from Bonaparta's creation? Whenever I feel sad, angry, I could just hop into that place...

I am aware that this question is unusual, but I think you are the one that could best answer it for me.

    Thanks in advance!

    • IDK if I understoof your question correctly but are you asking me if I know someone who can have a strong attachment with the stories and really imagine themselves in it?

If so, there's no one I know.  For these stories to sink on you for you to have a strong imagery of it, you need to score high on empathy and visual creativity (there are scales you can use on that).  I myself can't relate much to these picture books as much as Johan or Nina or anyone in the characters here.  It takes soem sort of conditioning during childhood to be sensitive enough to these stories.

    • Humm.. Ok. Thanks for the reply!

Although I agree that is hard for one to sink on those stories and create a new one, I do believe that one can make it if he puts much effort on it.

  • Hey, I have a doubt:

Back when Johan and Nina were living with Viera in the Tri Zaba, did they have a name? How were they called? If I'm not mistaken, the both of them didn't have names, since Bonaparta considered it unnecessary.

    • OMG it took me a couple of months to reply to you!

I believe they didn't have names, it's better that way I think.  Names form attachment, and as I firmly believe Viera has some kind of instability (you can't neatly put a name to it, pun not intended), it's possible she raised the children unconventionally, and not giving a name is one of them.

    • Oh, that makes sense! Thanks for answering my question.

  • Hi, I added a new person to Culture article although it hasn't been mentioned in Monster. But I noticed that the writer has a very similar way of storytelling comparing to Naoki Urasawa's. So would you mind if we keep him in the article. Beside, Kundera is one of the most notable people from the former Czechoslovakia. What do you say?

    • I guess you could, as long as it poses any semblance to any real-life references in Monster.

  • Hi, I started working on those manga volume articles and uploaded just a few of volume images. It's just gonna take a while for uploading images, cuz' I have only found it with needless blank. As you can see it on the third volume image, I edited it myself and cut that whiteness so that only the profile of the cover could be seen. You  can delete the images of the first volume and second, I intend to edit them just like I did with the 3rd, and so on will be the rest, if you agree.

And please could you delete the old image of the 1st volume I uploaded a while ago, cuz' it's not proportional and straight.

  • Hey, I noticed that those recently added pictures of Roberto have a better quality. I also noticed that a text is different from the subs on regular anime sites. Where did you find those HQ images? Or did you just download them?
